YOUNG ADULTS GROUP
We have a few activities coming up for the young adults of St. Michael's parish and the surrounding Quinte region.
On Saturday, March 29th, we will be visiting one or two sugar bushes in the county for “March Maple Madness.” We will meet at the parish hall for 12:30pm and arrive back sometime in the late afternoon/early evening. Rides available if needed. For details, see: https://www.pecmarchmaplemadness.ca
On Tuesday, April 1st, we are going to see The Chosen: The Last Supper at the Belleville Cineplex. We are meeting at the cinema for 6:30pm; the movie begins at 6:50pm.
On Friday, April 4th, we are attending St. Michael's parish for Stations of the Cross at 6:30pm, Mass at 7pm, followed by some social time together (just the young adults) in the parish hall.

Catechumens & Candidates for Easter Sacraments
Each year the Church rejoices to welcome new members who have journeyed through the RCIA weekly instruction and formation in Scripture, Catechism and Catholic piety. At the Easter Vigil on Saturday, April 19, at 8pm, the following Catechumens (unbaptized) will be baptized, confirmed and receive Holy Communion: Sarah Lindenmaier, Angelniqua (Angel) Sutton-Nelson, Quinlan Sutton-Nelson, Colin Bridger.
The following Candidates will be received into the Roman Catholic Church, confirmed and receive Holy Communion: Jennifer Segovia, Gregory Murphy, and Steve Ali.

40 Unique Penances for Lent

For Lent, many Catholics traditionally like to give up a favorite food, give up social media, stop cussing, etc., even though Catholics are not required to "give something up". This year, we want to help you get started on having a great Lent by offering unique ideas on what to "give up", which we have crowd-sourced from others.
Ash Wednesday is March 5th this year.
40 Unique Penances for Lent
- Pray and fast for one particular person every day of Lent. Sometime in the Easter season, send them a message telling them what you did and why.
- If you struggle with identity or self-worth, then write down something nice about yourself every day.
- Only buy things you absolutely need to have
- Pray the rosary daily for someone that has caused you harm. Meditate on how much Jesus loves that person.
- Work out every day.
- Intentionally give sincere compliments to everyone you have a conversation with.
- Prepare all your own food instead of eating out.
- Only use screens for work / school.
- Turn off all noise and distractions for extended periods of time (hours at a time).
- Write a letter to 40 different people every day of Lent telling them what they mean to you.
- Call someone you don’t talk to regularly every day.
- Daily Mass every week day.
- 30 minutes (or 1 hour) of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every day.
- Pray morning, evening, and night prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours.
- Volunteer weekly at a shelter, soup kitchen, retirement community, etc.
- Host a donation drive for a local charity.
- Coordinate a day of service for a local charity
- Go on a retreat, whether for multiple days or just one.
- Let God choose your cross. In the morning, pray about what cross God has given you, then embrace it in faith as the will of God - to the best of your ability.
- Go to Confession every week.
- Gain an indulgence every week.
- Start a new monthly donation to a great ministry / apostolate that you have never donated to before (Hint hint).
- Offer daily prayers for your pastor and/or Bishop. Let them know what you did at Easter.
- Give up speeding for all of Lent.
- Fast from your favorite meal every day.
- Spend an hour a day reading Catholic books.
- Invite someone who has few friends to lunch or coffee. Do this every week.
- Surprise someone in your neighborhood with a gift of flowers, a meal, basket of goodies, etc.
- Make bags of food, water, socks, etc for others and hand them out whenever you see a person in need.
- Get 8 hours of sleep every night.
- If you have a long commute, then do it in silence and prayer.
- Daily games with family.
- Everytime you go to Mass - find someone you don’t know and introduce yourself.
- Increase your charitable giving or start tithing.
- Cut salt from all your food
- Pray in front of an abortion clinic for an hour a week.
- Resolve to ask more questions of others than they do of you.
- Choose something meaningful to donate daily.
- Go knock on the door of a neighbor every day. Introduce yourself. Before you leave their house, ask them for prayer requests.
- Have your family / friends come up with 3 suggestions and choose from the list.
The Discalced Carmelite Secular Order is open to welcoming new members who would like to deepen their prayer life, read and study the teachings of the Saints of the Order. Monthly meetings are in Kingston at St. Joseph's Parish Hall. For more information, call Catherine 613-542-7260.
Healing Mass ~ Anointing of the Sick
On Wednesday, March 26, at the 12:10 pm Mass, Fr. Whalen, Fr. Brennen and support team will be offering the Church's Sacrament of the Sick with anointing to all who are seriously chronically ill, elderly, suffering from serious mental health issues, undergoing major surgery, etc. The Sacrament is not given for all ailments which are minor and transitory. However, prayer will also be offered for such ailments without the anointing of the Sacrament. We all need healing but some more than others. Fortunately, we can all offer our suffering up to Jesus Crucified for the good of others. Please ask those who are very ill if they'd like to attend the Healing Mass or need a ride. We are hoping to have a luncheon afterwards. The Mass is to be at the Parish Hall.

Your pastoral council has decided to be active in contacting as many parishioners as possible to offer a friendly invitation to share their prayer needs with us and to simply extend a warm welcome on the part of the parish community.
Many people slip away and can feel that their presence was never appreciated or missed. A simple contact can renew one's desire to frequent the parish community. We need lots of volunteers to call (30 people). It only takes a few hours of your time and your friendly voice. For more than fifteen years, St. Mary of Egypt Refuge has been offering Project Rachel retreats to extend hospitality and Christian Community to women who suffer the pain and grief of their children lost to abortion. Their retreats help women avail themselves of the forgiveness of Christ, and the healing that only our loving God can provide. The weekend retreat for women who have been hurt by abortion will take place May 2-4, 2025. Quinte Right to Life Association is once again inviting all pro life supporters in our communities, to join other like minded people from across our country to the "ANNUAL MARCH for LIFE" in Ottawa on Thursday, May 8th. We have arranged our travel plan through a reputable local coach company which will take us to and from our destination in comfort. We encourage those of you who plan to join us on this "journey for life" to reserve your seat(s) without delay. Again, this is an Annual National Pro Life event, where every person will be joined in harmony with others in support of the right to life from conception until natural death. Coach seats are priced @ $35 ea.

BIRTHRIGHT NEEDS YOU!!
Birthright currently has an opening on its Board of Directors. Are you someone who can attend meetings 3 – 4 times a year to help guide our centre and help in long-range planning? Birthright also needs office volunteers. Can you spare two hours a week to help a woman facing an unpanned pregnancy? If you are not able to make a regular commitment, relief volunteers are also needed. Occasionally, we may need to help one of our women with transportation or daycare. Is this something you can do? CHURCH RENOVATION UPDATE
Things move along and as the weeks go by we begin to see the renovation come together with a certain unity of colour and design, complimenting the twelve granite pillars of the church.
The main high altar is now taking shape with the Extraordinary Carrera marble being pieced together. Decorative paint work is happening behind the curtain and will give the sanctuary a heavenly look of gold and light. The sacristy has been gutted and a very high ceiling and hidden gothic windows have been uncovered. Exceptional!
New cabinets for storage in the sacristy are being designed and built by MKR Cabinets (Richard Murray). The baptismal font has been made and awaits delivery. The narthex wall is in process of being built. A new sound system is being priced and will hopefully bring an end to our auditory woes.

Father Brennan enjoys walking and so do some of the members of our Parish. Since we are lucky to live in Belleville, a city surrounded with several hiking trails, the idea to create a walking group to explore them has come to fruition. We meet Saturdays at 2 pm in St. Michael's Church parking lot and walk the waterfront trail. Hope to see you on Saturday!! All most welcome.

Gleaners’ Foodbank Monthly Food Collection
On the third weekend of every month our parish will promote a food drive to provide for the ongoing daily demands of the Food bank. The blue bins which you see in the tower entrance and by the Welcome Desk are for that purpose. Dry goods and canned goods are requested. If you want a more extensive list of their needs please pick up the food list by the foldout at the entrance of the Church.

One of the most important works of God that we do all of the time is supporting the sick and suffering with our prayers. All studies show that people who pray and receive prayer from others and are supported by the Sacraments, bear their sufferings better, recover more quickly and are open to God’s healing grace.
Will you be like the friends of the paralyzed man in the Gospel who lowered their friend through the roof right in front of Jesus, insisting that he be healed? They were so determined that their friend would encounter Jesus and experience his healing grace that they were ready to go to extreme measures on his behalf. Let’s be equally insistent and supportive.
