St. Michael the Archangel would like to wish a farewell to Fr. Johney Kunnath who will be taking up residency at St Mary’s Cathedral sometime in June. We want to thank Fr. Johney for his tremendous generosity in serving the Church in Belleville, both with the Syro-Malabar and Latin Rite. Fr. Johney will continue his ministry to the Syro-Malabar in Kingston, and we wish him much success in his faithful service to the people of God.

The Easter season culminates on Pentecost Sunday, June 8, 2025. Christians have prepared for Pentecost for over 2000 years by joining together for 9 days of prayer. The first Novena was instituted when Jesus instructed the Apostles, "And I myself will send upon you what my Father has promised. But you must wait in the city until the power from above comes down upon you" (Luke 23:49). We invite you to pray a novena - beginning on Friday, May 30 - for the intentions of the Archdiocese.

Prison Ministry Opportunity

Dismas Information Evening

Dismas Fellowship offers monthly gatherings that provide hope and community for those returning from prison. St. Joseph’s Parish in Kingston, is exploring the potential for starting this ministry locally. An information evening will be scheduled soon.

Although the timeline for completing the interior renovations has been extended due to unforseen delays, the work is nevertheless progressing such that, everything should be finished in another 4-6 weeks.

The lighting system and sound system, plus the installation of new ceiling fans, can move ahead anytime. The altar of the Blessed Sacrament behind the drape is almost finished and the scaffolding will be removed to reveal a remarkably stunning gothic marble reredos, which will enhance the architectural beauty of the space and draw the faithful to fitting worship of the abiding sacramental presence of Our Lord in the Tabernacle. The narthex wall will be one of the last things to be installed.

As you see, the work done so far is both beautiful and practical. The initial budget was around $1 million. We have exceeded the budget because of added items as we progressed, $1.3 million is a better estimate.

How will be pay for all this? Primarily from savings accounts, secondly from donations made through the Capital Fund, which is part of the monthly envelope distribution to those who have signed up to donate to the parish, thirdly, through private donors. In the next couple of weeks, a list of possible itemized elements of the renovation will be made available so that, those with greater means might choose to donate certain parts of the restoration project. All donations, large or small, are welcomed with profound gratitude. A list of contributions will be kept in a book of "Remembrance and Gratitude", and all will be remembered regularly in the prayers offered at Holy Mass.

Gleaners’ Foodbank Monthly Food Collection

On the third weekend of every month our parish will promote a food drive to provide for the ongoing daily demands of the Food bank. The blue bins which you see in the tower entrance and by the Welcome Desk are for that purpose. Dry goods and canned goods are requested. If you want a more extensive list of their needs please pick up the food list by the foldout at the entrance of the Church.

Whatsoever you do to the least of the brothers and sisters of Jesus, you do to Him.

One of the most important works of God that we do all of the time is supporting the sick and suffering with our prayers. All studies show that people who pray and receive prayer from others and are supported by the Sacraments, bear their sufferings better, recover more quickly and are open to God’s healing grace.

Will you be like the friends of the paralyzed man in the Gospel who lowered their friend through the roof right in front of Jesus, insisting that he be healed? They were so determined that their friend would encounter Jesus and experience his healing grace that they were ready to go to extreme measures on his behalf. Let’s be equally insistent and supportive.

Apostolate For The Dying

Jesus told St. Faustina, "Pray as much as you can for the dying.... Be assured that the eternal salvation of certain souls in their final moment depends on your prayers." (Diary #1777)

If you have 45 minutes on a Wednesday after the 12:10 p.m. Mass, please join us in prayers for the dying. At the moment, we meet upstairs in the Parish Centre, but when we get back into the church we kneel in front of the altar. Please consider joining us, this is such a beautiful work of mercy.
