Dear Parishioners,

As I reflect on the celebration luncheon this past Sunday at St. Michael’s School in honour of my 25^th anniversary of priesthood, I am deeply and profoundly moved by the thoughtfulness and love shown to me in so many ways. Your generosity and kindness through cards, prayers, and personal words of encouragement have left me with such gratitude that it is hard for me to put into words. This silver jubilee has reminded me of how honoured I am to be a priest and the incredible joy it is to serve the faith community at St. Michael the Archangel parish. With your generous gifts, I will be making a pilgrimage to Ireland in September.

A special thank you goes out to the Parish Council, Brother Knights and the CWL for their work in organizing the luncheon and to the many parishioners who brought side dishes and delicious desserts. May God bless you abundantly, as you have blessed me.

Thank you for participating in raising funds to help pregnant women and their children. If you forgot to bring your bottle this week, you can bring it to the church next week as well. Income tax receipts will be issued for donations of $15 or more.

Although the timeline for completing the interior renovations has been extended due to unforseen delays, the work is nevertheless progressing such that, everything should be finished in another 4-6 weeks.

The lighting system and sound system, plus the installation of new ceiling fans, can move ahead anytime. The altar of the Blessed Sacrament behind the drape is almost finished and the scaffolding will be removed to reveal a remarkably stunning gothic marble reredos, which will enhance the architectural beauty of the space and draw the faithful to fitting worship of the abiding sacramental presence of Our Lord in the Tabernacle. The narthex wall will be one of the last things to be installed.

As you see, the work done so far is both beautiful and practical. The initial budget was around $1 million. We have exceeded the budget because of added items as we progressed, $1.3 million is a better estimate.

How will be pay for all this? Primarily from savings accounts, secondly from donations made through the Capital Fund, which is part of the monthly envelope distribution to those who have signed up to donate to the parish, thirdly, through private donors. In the next couple of weeks, a list of possible itemized elements of the renovation will be made available so that, those with greater means might choose to donate certain parts of the restoration project. All donations, large or small, are welcomed with profound gratitude. A list of contributions will be kept in a book of "Remembrance and Gratitude", and all will be remembered regularly in the prayers offered at Holy Mass.

Campers are not registered until payment has been received and a confirmation email is sent to you from the parish office. There is room for 60 campers each week. We look forward to a couple of great weeks with the children!

Celebrating the Feast of Saint Josemaria in Canada June 26

The feast of Saint Josemaria (June 26) will be celebrated throughout Canada at numerous Masses of thanksgiving. Members, cooperators and their friends will give thanks to God for the holy life of the Founder of Opus Dei and renew their desire to find God in the ordinary affairs of each day.

Volunteer(s) Needed for Gardening

After 20 years of dedicated service, Rosemary Macaulay is retiring from looking after the weeding and trimming around the parish hall. Rosemary’s green thumb has not only nurtured plants but has also cultivated beauty and peace for those who have visited the Blessed Sacrament in the Adoration Chapel. Rosemary’s care in looking after the gardens have been a steady and quiet gift to adorers and parishioners alike. We cannot thank her enough for her years of faithfulness.

Gleaners’ Foodbank Monthly Food Collection

On the third weekend of every month our parish will promote a food drive to provide for the ongoing daily demands of the Food bank. The blue bins which you see in the tower entrance and by the Welcome Desk are for that purpose. Dry goods and canned goods are requested. If you want a more extensive list of their needs please pick up the food list by the foldout at the entrance of the Church.

Whatsoever you do to the least of the brothers and sisters of Jesus, you do to Him.

One of the most important works of God that we do all of the time is supporting the sick and suffering with our prayers. All studies show that people who pray and receive prayer from others and are supported by the Sacraments, bear their sufferings better, recover more quickly and are open to God’s healing grace.

Will you be like the friends of the paralyzed man in the Gospel who lowered their friend through the roof right in front of Jesus, insisting that he be healed? They were so determined that their friend would encounter Jesus and experience his healing grace that they were ready to go to extreme measures on his behalf. Let’s be equally insistent and supportive.

Apostolate For The Dying

Jesus told St. Faustina, "Pray as much as you can for the dying.... Be assured that the eternal salvation of certain souls in their final moment depends on your prayers." (Diary #1777)

If you have 45 minutes on a Wednesday after the 12:10 p.m. Mass, please join us in prayers for the dying. At the moment, we meet upstairs in the Parish Centre, but when we get back into the church we kneel in front of the altar. Please consider joining us, this is such a beautiful work of mercy.
