We’ll share a meal, make an Advent wreath, and share some ways to live the season more intentionally at home. Drawing on the deposit of faith, these practices can be embraced within each family, but when shared across our parish, they draw us together as one body of faith awaiting the coming of our Savior. We also hope to hear how other families prepare for the coming of Christ in their own homes and traditions.

The Bible clearly states that it is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead that they may be loosed from their sins (2 Macabees 12:46). Catholic Bibles have included the Book of Macabees since the Canon of the Bible was authoritatively established in the fourth century Anno Domini (A.D. ~ The Year of Our Lord). Those who have died in the body live on after death, either in Heaven (the Saints of the Church Triumphant), in Pugatory (the Church Suffering) or in Hell (those who have chosen eternal separation from the Love of God). The only ones whom we know for certain to be in Heaven are those whom the Church has declared to be there (Saints) and since we do not know who is in Hell, we pray for all who have died assuming that we and they, although freed from mortal sin through repentance and confession, will need to be purged from the remnants and effects of our sins after death in the state of Purgatory that, healing fire of God's mercy. It is a work of charity to pray for the dead with a daily remembrance in prayer, a prayerful visit to the cemetery, a personal remembrance of them at each Mass we attend and the offering of Masses for the deceased. The Mass is the best prayer because it is Christ Himself, Who offered His death and resurrection for the salvation of all people, pleading for us at the Throne of the Father.
So, you are encouraged to offer Masses for your deceased loved ones at your local parish. Mass stipends/offerings are $10 for unannounced and $20 for announced Masses, but in reality you do not buy a Mass; you make a love offering.
All parents are asked to register their child/ren for the following Sacraments as soon as possible:
~ Grade 2 or older, First Holy Communion and First Reconciliation
~ Grade 7 or older, Confirmation
Registration does not take place through the Catholic schools but at the parish. To register your child/ren, please pick up a registration form at the entrance of the church or contact the parish office at 613-962-4634 or Email: StMichael@archkingston.ca
There are two parent meetings for the Sacraments on Monday, December 1, in the parish hall.
1. First Confession and First Communion at 6:15 pm
2. Confirmation on the same evening at 7:15 PM
The Knights will be selling Christmas Cards at the back of the church before and after each Mass during the weekend of 29/30 Nov.

Join us as we begin this Fall with the first in the series
“Journey with the Father”
What does it mean to walk with God? To come to know Him? To come to live for Him?
In this study, we explore our relationship with God the Father
as we look to the Bible to answer the age old questions –
Who is God? And what does He want from me?
God has revealed Himself and who He wants us to become,
through His words and His actions, with those whom He has called into relationship with Him.
Join us as we work through the Bible to understand God the Father,
what He offers us, and what He asks of those He has called to walk with Him.
This is the journey of a soul to God.
Beginning in Genesis, we will move through the Bible and come to understand
the nature of our relationship with God the Father.
In our weakness He strengthens us. In our struggles He teaches us.
Bring your Bible, a cup of coffee/tea, and join us Saturday mornings for Catholic fellowship
and the joy that comes from reading and sharing the Bible together.

Gleaners’ Foodbank Monthly Food Collection
On the third weekend of every month our parish will promote a food drive to provide for the ongoing daily demands of the Food bank. The blue bins which you see in the tower entrance and by the Welcome Desk are for that purpose. Dry goods and canned goods are requested. If you want a more extensive list of their needs please pick up the food list by the foldout at the entrance of the Church.

One of the most important works of God that we do all of the time is supporting the sick and suffering with our prayers. All studies show that people who pray and receive prayer from others and are supported by the Sacraments, bear their sufferings better, recover more quickly and are open to God’s healing grace.
Will you be like the friends of the paralyzed man in the Gospel who lowered their friend through the roof right in front of Jesus, insisting that he be healed? They were so determined that their friend would encounter Jesus and experience his healing grace that they were ready to go to extreme measures on his behalf. Let’s be equally insistent and supportive.
